Spotted Coral Croucher

Coloration is tan to light gray covered with numerous small reddish-brown spots and has a notched dorsal fin.Description: Characterized by having single small spine at lower anterior edge of lacrimal; depth of body about 1.7 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Found inshore (Ref. 75154). Inhabits shallow reef crests, usually exposed to moderate surge (Ref. 48635). Common among the branches of pocilloporid corals (e.g. Pocillopora eydouxi, Stylophora mordax) and some species of Acropora.

分布於印度-太平洋區，由東印度群島到萊恩、馬貴斯與奧斯垂群島，北至日本南部。臺灣分布於南部、綠島及蘭嶼海域等。

小型魚類，無食用價值。

體型小，近卵形，側扁，頭長小於頭高。口小，端位；上下頜有細小的齒，腭骨則無。鰓孔狹小，鰓膜連於喉峽部。前鰓蓋骨上有5個鈍棘。全身大多無鱗，在背鰭基底有2-4列的鱗，且體表密被著垂直排列的粗糙小乳突或絨毛；側線有管狀鱗。背鰭在硬棘部和軟條間有一個明顯的深缺刻，具硬棘VII-VIII，軟條12-13，背鰭棘有毒；臀鰭具硬棘II，軟條11-14；腹鰭小；尾鰭圓形。體淡灰色，體側有不規則的猩紅色斑點。

主要棲息於水淺且暴露於中等湧浪的珊瑚礁冠區。通常被發現活動於鹿角珊瑚 (例如/ Pocillopora eydouxi/、 /Stylophora mordax/) 或一些Acropora 的種類的枝椏間。
