Coarctate Flounder

Body elliptical, its depth contained more than 2.4 times in SL. Tip of isthmus below posterior margin of lower eye. Eyes separated by a broad and concave space. Interorbital in male broader than that in female. Ctenoid scales on ocular side armed with a row of hairlike spines. Small dark blotches on origin of straight part of lateral line. Small dark dots along upper margin of upper eye.

分布於太平洋區，包括台灣、日本、新加勒多尼亞及夏威夷等。台灣主要分布於南部海域。

較罕見之魚種，偶為底拖網捕獲。

體呈橢圓形，扁平且稍細長，上眼前方背緣淺凹陷；兩眼均在左側；眼間隔寬，成熟雄魚具較寬之凹窪。下眼稍前於上眼；雄魚在兩眼間有一枚或更多吻棘。頭中型。口中型；上頜延伸至下眼前下方，但未達中央；上下頜齒各具一列，齒小而尖。鰓耙適中而尖。鱗中型易脫落，眼側被櫛鱗，盲側被圓鱗；側線鱗數90-96。背鰭正常，軟條數106-117；臀鰭正常，軟條87-95；胸鰭短於頭長；左右腹鰭不對稱，起始點遠在下眼後方；尾鰭圓型。體呈棕色或灰色，由背鰭和臀鰭的中部延伸至基底各具一串大型暗色斑，尾鰭前部具兩個黑色小斑點；盲側灰白色。

主要棲息於大陸棚砂泥質的海域。肉食性魚類，主要捕食底棲性的甲殼類或是其它種類的小魚。
