Parabothus kiensis (Tanaka 1918)

Caudal fin darkened on middle rays (Ref 42535). Related to P. coarctatus, but differs from it in having a small number of scales on the lateral line, larger eye, its diameter 3.5 times in head length, no dark blotches on lateral line and no dots along upper margin of upper eye.

分布於印度-西太平洋區，包括台灣、日本、印尼至澳洲西北部及新加勒多尼亞等。台灣主要分布於東北部海域。

通常是用底拖網或底流刺網捕捉，體型較小，一般皆加工作扁魚酥或以下雜魚般利用。

體呈橢圓形，扁平且稍細長，上眼前方背緣淺凹陷；兩眼均在左側；眼間隔寬，成熟雄魚具較寬之凹窪。下眼稍前於上眼；雄魚在兩眼間有一枚或更多吻棘。頭中型。口中型；上頜延伸至下眼前下方，但未達中央；上下頜齒各具一列，齒小而尖。鰓耙適中而尖。鱗中型易脫落，眼側被櫛鱗，盲側被圓鱗；側線鱗數80-86。背鰭正常，軟條數104-113；臀鰭正常，軟條83-90；胸鰭短於頭長；左右腹鰭不對稱，起始點遠在下眼後方；尾鰭圓型。體呈棕色或灰色，背鰭和臀鰭中央具一串暗色斑，尾鰭中央數鰭呈黑色；盲側灰白色。以前所記載之綠斑擬鮃(/Parabothus chlorospilus/)為產於夏威夷之種，是本種之誤鑑。

主要棲息於大陸棚砂泥質的海域。肉食性魚類，主要捕食底棲性的甲殼類或是其它種類的小魚。
