Description: Characterized by mottled brown with widely scattered large dark brown blotches; dorsal rays branched except first 14 and last two rays; all anal rays branched; caudal rays 18; pectoral fins absent; lateral line of eyed side unbranched with 68 scales, including six anterior to upper end of gill opening; absence of caudal peduncle; ctenoid scales; tubular anterior nostril just reaching fleshy edge of eye when laid back; ocular side of snout before anterior nostril with irregular, flat, fleshy papillae separated by narrow spaces forming labyrinth; absence of posterior flap with long cirri on ventroposterior end of operculum; membranous ridge of anterior dorsal and anal rays with few or no cirri; depth of body 2.5 in SL (Ref. 90102).
