Cape Damsel

Description: Those between Pacific and Indian Ocean are most different. Adults usually plain dark with a black spot at the end of the dorsal fin base and a small orange spot on gill-plate (Ref. 48636). Body depth 2.1-2.4 in SL (Ref. 90102).

Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).

廣泛分布於印度-西太平洋區，西起紅海、東非，東至斐濟，北至琉球群島，南至澳洲大堡礁的南方、東加等。台灣各沿岸礁區可見。

本身體色豔麗使其成為受歡迎之水族觀賞魚。

體呈橢圓形而側扁，標準體長為體高之2.1-2.4倍。眼中大，上側位。口小，上頜骨末端僅及眼前緣。眶下骨裸出；前鰓蓋骨後緣平滑。頰部有鱗2列。體被櫛鱗；側線之有孔鱗片16-20個。鰓耙數22-23。背鰭單一，軟條部不延長而呈角形，硬棘XIII，軟條13-14；臀鰭硬棘II，軟條11-14；胸鰭鰭條17-19；尾鰭內叉形，上下葉末端呈角形。成魚體呈亮褐色，鰓蓋上具一橘黃斑，有時不顯；背鰭基底後緣具一黑斑；胸鰭黃色，餘鰭褐色。幼魚體偏黃，頭背部自吻端具一藍帶延伸至背鰭硬棘部基底後緣下方連接另一藍緣之黑斑，此斑紋隨著成長而逐漸消失。

主要棲息於岸邊海藻礁區、碎石區或者岩岸海灘暴露於中等的湧浪的開放性礁石平臺上，獨自或成小群活動。主要以底部的藻類為食。

Chrysiptera unimaculata, commonly known as the one-spot damselfish, among variations of this name, is a species of damselfish in the family Pomacentridae. It is native to the Pacific and Indian Oceans. The species is Least concern according to the IUCN. The adults of the species are usually found in small groups or are solitary.
