Characterized by whitish to pale yellow body color with seven reddish brown to red bars; head and body with blue spots and sometimes on median fins; scattered red spots on head including corner of mouth; medially united pelvic fins for nearly half length of fifth ray; predorsal scales extending forward to above posterior margin of preopercle; longitudinal scale series 50-58; greatest depth of body 4.5-5.2 in SL; rounded caudal fin, slightly longer than head (Ref. 90102).

第一背鰭:VI;第二背鰭:I / 12;臀鰭:I / 12;胸鰭:18~19。縱列鱗 65~70;橫列鱗 19~21。體延長,後部側扁。口鈍,口裂延伸至對應於眼後緣的下方。標準體長為頭長的3.2~3.6倍;體高的4.8~5.2倍。頭長為吻長的6.0~6.5倍;眼徑的3.5~3.8倍;眼間距的13.7~15.2倍。尾鰭呈圓形。頭部無鱗。體呈淡黃色,體具6~7條紅色橫帶,向下而略向前斜,第一條位於眼後項部延伸至口裂後端,第二條至第六條(或第五條)寬大,其寬度大於間隔,最後一條位於尾鰭基部。體前部及頭部、胸鰭基部具許多淺藍色亮斑;口角處具具1個紅斑。背鰭灰白色,具10餘個紅色斑點;胸鰭透明無色;尾鰭灰白,鰭膜具放射狀橘紅色紋,下半葉有1條較粗紅色縱紋;臀鰭灰褐色,具2條橘紅色線紋。腹鰭灰褐色。(林上智、林沛立編寫 2012/10)

Amblyeleotris wheeleri, the Gorgeous prawn-goby, is a species of goby native to tropical reefs of the Indian Ocean to the western Pacific Ocean. It can be found at depths of from 5 to 40 metres (16 to 131 ft) though is usually does not occur deeper than 15 metres (49 ft). It is a commensal with alpheid shrimps, most often being found in association with Alpheus ochrostriatus. This species can reach a length of 10 centimetres (3.9 in) SL. It can also be found in the aquarium trade.[2]

Etymology

The specific name honours the English ichthyologist Alwynne Cooper Wheeler (1929-2005), who was curator of Fishes at the British Museum (Natural History), "for his help over the years, particularly with the authors’ study of prawn-associated gobies of the Seychelles".[3]
