Description: Characterized by brownish grey to reddish color; eight yellowish-brown stripes; without enlarged pores anterior to posterior nostrils or in anterior interorbital space; pelvic fins 1.7-2.0 in head length (Ref. 90102).

分布於印度-太平洋區，西起紅海，東至萊恩群島，北至日本南部，南至新加勒多尼亞。台灣南部、澎湖及蘭嶼海域均有。

小型石斑魚，不是經濟性魚種。偶以延繩釣或底拖網等捕獲，產量較為稀少。可食用。

體極為延長，標準體長為體高之3.8-3.9倍。頭背部斜直；眶間區平坦或略凹陷。吻較長而略突出。上頜骨末端延伸至眼中部之下方；上下頜具齒。前後鼻孔遠離，前鼻孔近於吻端。前鰓蓋骨下緣無前向棘。鰓耙數5+1+12。體被細小櫛鱗，上頜骨具鱗；側線鱗孔數44-49。背鰭兩個，有硬棘VI+I+I枚，軟條12；臀鰭硬棘III枚，軟條8；腹鰭腹位，末端不及肛門開口；胸鰭短於頭部長；尾鰭內凹形，尖端圓形。體一致為灰紅色至玫瑰紅色，體側具8條黃褐至黑褐色縱帶。各鰭鮮紅色。

主要棲息於較淺水域的潟湖及向海之岩礁區。穴居性。肉食性，以無脊椎動物為食。。
