體呈長卵圓形,標準體長約為體高的2.5-2.8倍,體背輪廓與體腹輪廓相當。口小唇薄,能伸縮自如,伸出時向下垂。眼大,約為頭長的2.4-2.7倍。上下頜齒細長,呈絨毛狀;鋤骨、腭骨及舌面皆無齒。體被薄圓鱗,易脫落;背鰭及臀鰭基底具鱗鞘;側線完全,呈弧狀,至尾鰭基底之側線鱗數44-48;側線上鱗列數3(側線至背鰭第V棘間,且不含側線鱗)。背鰭單一,硬棘部IX-X,第III棘最長,但短於頭長;臀鰭V-VI,軟條12-13,臀鰭基底長於背鰭軟條部的基底長;胸鰭長,末端可達及臀鰭基底中部之下方;尾鰭深叉形,最長鰭條長為中央鰭條2倍以上。體呈銀白色,背部較暗。由吻部至尾柄具有一金屬光澤的縱帶。
棲地

The longfin mojarra (Pentaprion longimanus) is a species of mojarra native to the coastal waters of the Indian Ocean from India to the western Pacific. This species grows to 15 cm (5.9 in) in total length, though most do not exceed 10 cm (3.9 in). This species is of minor importance to local commercial fisheries, usually being made into fish meal or feed for ducks. It is the only known member of the genus Pentaprion.
