Potentilla bruceae Rydberg, sp. nov
Perennial, with a thick woody cespitose caudex ; stems several, ascending, 1.5-2 dm. high, finely villous, more or less tinged with red ; basal leaves 3-5 cm. long, densely and softly villous, pinnate, with 5-7 closely approximate leaflets ; petioles 1-2 cm. long, villous ; leaflets broadly cuneate or flabelliform, 7-15 mm. long, coarsely toothed at the apex with 4-7 broadly ovate teeth ; stem-leaves nearly all ternate and short-petioled ; stipules ovate, 7-10 mm. long, acute; cyme open, 3-5-flowered; hypanthium villous, in fruit 7 mm. broad; bractlets lanceolate, about 3 mm. long; sepals ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, 5-6 mm. long; petals obcordate, 6-7 mm. long; stamens about 20; pistils many; styles filiform.
Type collected on Warner Mountains, Oregon, in 1898, Mrs. C. C. Bruce 2301 (herb. N. Y. Bot. Gard.).
