Amastus coccinator Schaus

Amastus coccinator Schaus, 1901, p. 267.

Forewing 37.0 mm. Front of head white, vertex red. Tegulae deep orange, with white anterior margin; patagia deep orange, edged with white anterolaterally and medially, and with pastel red posterolaterally; rest of thorax red. Forewings brownish orange; translucent from base to greyish orange subterminal fascia. Hindwing light yellow, with pastel red anal fringe; translucent to transparent except at margins of wing. Segment 1 of dorsal surface of abdomen deep orange, segments 2–5 red, 6–8 deep orange, each segment edged laterally with white, and with white lateral marking on each side of 4 and 5. Ventral abdominal surface greyish white except for deep orange tail fringe, some red scales on segment 2, and conspicuous red lateral line on each side of abdomen.

Described from an unspecified number of specimens from Colombia. There are two specimens from Colombia, other than the lectotype, in the USNM collection.
