Ciliate, 20-40 x 8-15 microns, usually 25-30 microns long. Shape ellipsoid to indistinctly egg-shaped. Laterally flattened. Macronucleus spherical in the front half of the body. 1 spherical micronucleus. Contractile vacuole in the posterior part on the ventral side. About 10-12 longitudinal ciliary rows. Cilia with exception of the last third in pairs. At the posterior end several extended cilia, of which the longest at the end (caudal cilium) is curved . Oral apparatus about 2/3 body length. Membranelle 1 about 1/3 body length, membranelles 2 and 3 rectangular and nearly perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis arranged.
