These tiny ants are found exclusively within the nests of the fungus-growing Trachymyrmex arizonensis. The attines vigilantly maintain an optimally moist microenvironment in their fungus gardens, and S. arizonica likely prey on Collembola (springtails) that take advantage of this microhabitat.
