Xanthoxalis madrensis (S. Wats.) Small

Stem branched at the base, the branches diffuse or spreading, 2-4 dm. long, pubescent with fine lax hairs ; leaflets bright-green, the blades obovate, 10-15 mm. long, notched at the more or less narrowed apex, finely pubescent on both sides ; peduncles longer than the petioles ; pedicels appressed-pubescent, not refracted at maturity ; sepals petaloid, somewhat accrescent and with thin pink or purple tips, 9-11 mm. long at maturity; petals yellow, about twice as long as the sepals during anthesis ; longer filaments pubescent, narrower than the shorter ones; capsules columnar, as long as the sepals or slightly longer.
Type locality : Near Monterey, Mexico. Distribution : Known only from the type locality.
