Brief Summary

provided by EOL authors

The subspecies Cicadetta calliope floridensis is one of two recognized subpecies of C. calliope (the other being C. calliope calliope). It was described to account for Florida specimens that are completely green without black markings, but has also been recorded from southern Alabama and Georgia (U.S.A.). Both C. calliope subspecies have been associated with the Southeastern Plains, Southern Coastal Plains, and Miami Ridge/Atlantic Coastal Strip of the Southern Florida Coastal Plains ecoregions in Florida. Sanborn & Phillips (2013) suggest that the significant overlap of the subspecies indicate the need for further investigation of the validity these subspecies. (Sanborn & Phillips 2013).
