Shrub, up to 2.5 m tall. Branches stellate-hairy. Leaves, up to 3 × 3 cm, elliptic to ovate in outline, unlobed to 3-lobed, densely stellate-hairy on both surfaces; margin irregularly serrate-crenate; petiole 4-15 mm long. Flowers solitary, axillary, 2-2.5 cm in diameter, pure white when open, fading to pink. Epicalyx of 5-7 bracts, 4-7 mm long, linear. Calyx up to 10 mm long; lobes linear-triangular, 5-8 mm long, with rough short hairs. Fruit a subglobose capsule, c. 9 × 10 mm, velvety.
