They are native to Ukraine, Tunisia, mediterranean region, Italy, Israel, Algeria, France, Libya, Albania, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, Cyprus, Greece, Yugoslavia, and Turkey. They have fleshy fruit. Flowers are visited by Bombus terrestris lusitanicus and Scaeva selenitica. Individuals can grow to 5 m.
