Thysanocarpus curvipes has a broad bioregional distribution in western North America from British Columbia south to the California Floristic Province and Baja California. It is found in desert like settings eastward to the Rocky Mountains and Arizona. Common habitats are slopes, washes and moist meadows below elevation 1800 meters.

With a common name of Sand fringepod, stems reach a height of 15 to 80 centimeters, and may or may not have a branching habit. Generally there are hairs below lanceolate or oblanceolate leaves. Flowers have sepals of approximately one millimeter in length, often purplish with white margin. Petals are white or purple-tinged, and the elliptic to round fruits are five to eight mm.
