Herbaceous perennial climber, cultivated in gardens but doubtful as an escape (see under Status). Stems grooved, slightly 4-angled, velvety when young; axillary tendrils presents. Leaves alternate, 3-lobed with ovate-triangular, pointed lobes, deeply cordate at the base, thinly textured, somewhat roughly hairy on both surfaces; margin toothed or subentire; petiole up to 6 cm long, flattened, conspicuous glands at the apex; stipules ovate, c. 6 × 3 mm. Flowers solitary, axillary, 2-3 cm in diameter. Sepals, white mottled with red inside. Petals, white. Corona with a single row of filaments, 5-6 mm. long, white with blue or violet bands. Fruit spherical, 2 cm. in diameter, blue-green, roughly hairy.

Passiflora morifolia (gelegentlich auch als Maulbeerblättrige Passionsblume bzw. Maulbeerbaumblättrige Passionsblume bezeichnet) ist eine Pflanzen-Art aus der rund 460 Arten umfassenden Gattung der Passionsblumen (Passiflora), der umfangreichsten Gattung innerhalb der Passionsblumengewächse (Passifloraceae).

Beschreibung

Passiflora morifolia ist eine mehrjährige Kletterpflanze, die bis 12 m Höhe erreichen kann. Die leicht behaarten Laubblätter sind drei- bis fünflappig, meist 3,5 bis 10 cm lang, gesägt bis gezähnt und erinnern etwas an Maulbeerblätter (daher auch der Artname: lat. morifolius = maulbeerblättrig).

Die Blüten sind mit einem Durchmesser zwischen 2,5 und 3,5 cm im Vergleich zu vielen anderen Gattungsvertretern relativ klein. Die weißen Kronblätter umgeben einen einreihigen weißen Strahlenkranz, der eine breite purpurviolette Zone aufweist. Wie bei den Passionsblumen üblich, sind die Fortpflanzungsorgane (fünf Staubgefäße und drei Narben) als Androgynophor zu einer die Blütenhülle weit überragenden Säule zusammengefasst.

Da die Blüten selbstfruchtbar sind, werden regelmäßig blauviolette Früchte ausgebildet, die in Form und Größe (bis etwa 4 cm Länge) stark an Pflaumen erinnern, jedoch als nicht genießbar gelten. Die Samen in ihrem Inneren sind von intensiv orangerotem Arillus-Gewebe umgeben.

Verbreitung

Der Verbreitungsschwerpunkt von Passiflora morifolia liegt in Bolivien, Argentinien, Paraguay und dem angrenzenden Brasilien. Einzelne Vorkommen liegen auch in Guatemala, Venezuela, Kolumbien, Ecuador und Peru.

Sonstiges

Passiflora morifolia wird häufig in Schmetterlingshäusern kultiviert, da sie eine gut geeignete Futterpflanze für viele Raupen der Gattung Heliconius darstellt. Wegen ihrer verhältnismäßig geringen Ansprüche kann sie auch im Zimmer gehalten werden.

Descripción

Puede alcanzar una altura de 3 metros, produce vistosas flores ornamentales y un fruto de color azul o púrpura de 2 cm de diámetro. Se cultiva como ornamental.[2][3]

Taxonomía

Passiflora morifolia fue descrita por Maxwell Tylden Masters y publicado en Flora Brasiliensis 13(1): 555. 1872.[4]

Passiflora morifolia (morifolia = blad als van de moerbei) is een soort passiebloem die gemakkelijk is te kweken. De plant heeft stevige, hoekige, harige stengels. In de bladoksels ontspringen de ranken die daar worden geflankeerd door een paar 0,5 cm grote steunblaadjes. De behaarde bladstelen zijn tot 5 cm lang. De bladeren zijn afwisselend geplaatst, drielobbig, behaard aan beide zijden en 4–7 x 5–9 cm groot.

De bloemen staan solitair in de bladoksels op tot 4 cm lange bloemstelen. Ze zijn 2–3 cm breed en groenachtig geel of wit en paars van kleur. De kelkbladeren zijn groenachtig wit en tot 2 x 0,8 cm groot. De kroonbladeren zijn wit en tot 1,1 x 0,5 cm groot. De corona bestaat uit een enkele, tot 0,8 cm lange rij die aan de basis paars is en aan het uiteinde wit. De plant vormt gemakkelijk vruchten. Deze zijn langwerpig, tot 4 cm groot, donkerpaars tot zwart van kleur met binnenin oranje zaadmantels. Op de plaatsen waar vruchten op de grond vallen kunnen na verloop van tijd zaailingen opkomen.

Passiflora morifolia komt van nature voor in grote gebieden in Bolivia, Argentinië, Paraguay en Brazilië. Ook komt de plant voor in geïsoleerde gebieden in Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador en Peru in periodiek droge bossen op hoogtes tussen de 400 en 2800 m. Hij is onder andere verwilderd in Maleisië, op Java en op een aantal eilanden in de Grote Oceaan. In droge periodes sterft de plant tot aan de basis af, waarna hij in het natte seizoen weer opkomt.

Passiflora morifolia kan in België en Nederland in de vensterbank en in de koude kas worden gehouden. Het is een plant die gemakkelijk is op te kweken door middel van zaaien. Ook kan de plant worden vermeerderd door middel van stekken. De plant wordt vaak in vlindertuinen gehouden omdat de plant wordt gebruikt als waardplant voor de rupsen van vlinders uit de familie Heliconiinae.
