This species is distinguished by the following characters: with a simple, long, laterally compressed, posterior escal appendage; a relatively short illicium; subopercle short and broad, ventral margin nearly circular; escal appendage morphology with anterior appendageinternally pigmented, a pair of unbranched, anterolateral appendages, the terminal papilla with a single distal spot of pigment, and a pair of fleshy, stout, medial appendages, each divided distally into two or three (on each side) short, slender filaments (Ref. 116652).

Oneirodes sanjeevani is a species of ceratioid anglerfish[1] known by a single specimen which was described in March 2017. The holotype was recovered by midwater trawling in the Indian Ocean at a depth between 380 and 600 meters. It is named in honor of Dr. V. N. Sanjeevan.[1]
