Pileus fleshy, convex or nearly plane, 7-10 cm. broad; surface at first viscid, white, brownish in the center, striate on the margin; context white; lamellae free, white, crowded, unequal; spores globose or broadly ellipsoid, smooth, hyaline, 10-12X8-10^; stipe equal, white, flocculose, solid, 13-15 cm. long, 1.5-2.5 cm. thick; annulus narrow, white, often disappearing with age; volva large, thick, soft, spongy, lobed on the outer margin and having an elevated entire nner margin surrounding the stipe.
Type locality: Claremont, California.
Habitat: Under oak trees.
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
