Marasmius praeacutus Ellis, Bull. Torrey Club 6: 76. 1876
Pileus membranous, convex to expanded, subumbilicate, 6-10 mm. broad; surface pulverulent, white, the disk red-tinged; margin at first incurved, subsulcate, striate: lamellae adnate, more or less forked, hardly crowded, narrow, white: spores 5-6 X 3 ju: stipe swollen below but contracted to a point at the base, hollow, reddish-brown, white at the base, ptdverulent, 2.5 cm. long, 1 mm. thick. In young plants, the swollen part of the stipe constitutes nearly the entire plant.
Type locality: Newfield, New Jersey. Habitat: On dead leaves, twigs, and bark. Distribution: New York and New Jersey.
