Description

Deciduous shrub or small tree. Leaves elliptic, entire, up to 10 × 16 cm, densely velvety hairy, particularly on the under surface. Flowers with a distinct staminal tube, greenish-white, turning yellow with age, appearing before the leaves in dense clusters on the young branches. Fruit a near-spherical, thinly woody capsule. See T. zambesica, which is confined to the Zambesi Valley. It can be distinguished by the smaller leaves being nearly glabrous.
