Gymnophiona (a Graecis γυμνος 'nudus' + οφις 'anguis'[2]) sunt caeciliani cruribus carentes atque omnia amphibia cum eis artius conectis quam anuris et caudatis.[3] Corpus est cylindricum et colore brunneo vel coracino. Cutis est limosa, strias vel maculas anulares ferens, minutis squamis dermalibus praedita.
