Sauromalus ater (Common Chuckwalla) is a species of Squamata in the family iguanids. They are native to The Neotropics and The Nearctic. They visit flowers of creosote bush, Acmispon rigidus, desert wishbone-bush, and cleftleaf wildheliotrope. They are solitary, diurnal herbivores. Individuals can grow to 170 mm. They have sexual reproduction. Reproduction is oviparous. They have parental care (female provides care). They rely on running to move around.
