Description
provided by World Register of Marine Species
Colonies are leafy, Corallites are protuberant, angled towards the edge of the leaf. The general appearance is similar to that of Leptoseris hawaiiensis, but calices are slightly larger, and septo-costae alternate markedly in size, which give this species a rougher texture and appearance. The species can be found in water as shallow as 5 m deep, to over 35 m (Sheppard, 1998 ) Colonies are composed of encrusting unifacial laminae which may become highly contorted, forming hollow columns or tubes and fronds. Corallites become more widely spaced towards the colony perimeter. They are not outwardly inclined. Septo-costae alternate strongly. Colour: dull grey, brown or green, usually with white margins. Abundance: found usually on vertical or overhang walls. (Veron, 1986 )
