Developed gill raker 4. Head and body fully covered with scales. Operculum with a strong spine but preoperculum spineless (Ref. 43544).

Found on the continental shelf and slope (Ref. 75154). Active carnivore (Ref. 42247).

Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205). Rarely in markets (Ref. 34024).

分布於印度-西太平洋區，由日本至澳洲海域。臺灣分布於西部及澎湖海域。

因為較少見，所以就算一般漁民撈獲，也只是棄置於下雜魚堆中，除了學術研究之外，食用的經濟價值並不大。

體圓而延長，近尾部處則是逐漸側扁。鰓蓋骨後方有一強棘，但前鰓蓋骨上無棘。頭及身體全部被鱗。腹鰭位於眼徑後緣下方，只有1鰭條，但延長至鰓蓋後方。基鰓骨中央有齒。身體的上半部呈黃綠色，上有許多不規則、不連續的棕色斑點。頭部則有一褐色縱帶自吻端達鰓蓋骨上的硬棘。背鰭上有許多褐斑，臀鰭顏色較黑，外緣白色。

主要棲息於大陸棚砂泥底質環境，大約在100-200公尺左右深度的水層中，以小型魚類及甲殼類為主食。
